League of Ireland Premier Division Power Rankings – Round 2

10. Sligo Rovers

Conceding 6 goals in your opening two matches is not the ideal start to any season. Add in the fact there’s zero points on the board and the two losses were to Waterford and Drogheda United who many deem to be battling relegation with Sligo Rovers this year, 10th place.

    9. St Patrick’s Athletic

A lot was expected of Stephen Kenny’s Pats this year after their stellar second half of the season in 2024. One point from the opening six already leaves them with a five point deficit to last year’s champions. Friday night’s fixture with Sligo is already a must win for the Inchicore club.

      8. Cork City

Not much to go off yet from the First Division champions. However, an opening day point against Galway was a positive result.

        7. Shamrock Rovers

An opening day loss to rivals Bohs was far from ideal for Stephen Bradley’s men. But the Hoops came agonisingly close to advancing to the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League at the expense of Norwegian giants Molde. A very interesting match vs Shelbourne awaits on Friday night.

          6. Derry City

Shelbourne showed why they are the champions on opening night but the Candystripes bounced back to great effect against Bohs with a 1-0 win.

            5. Bohemian FC

A tough opening two fixtures to kick start any season versus Shamrock Rovers and Derry City. Three points is a solid return for the North Dublin club.

              4. Waterford FC

Came out on the right side of an absolute goal fest away to Sligo in the opening round of fixtures. Lost by just the one goal to the champions with 10 men. A solid enough start for a team many have predicted to be battling relegation. A tough next game away to Derry City.

                3. Galway United

Four points when your opening fixtures are Cork City away on opening night and St Pat’s at home is a more than respectable return. An intriguing next game awaits versus Drogheda at Weavers Park.

                  2. Shelbourne

Maximum points to start the season. Damien Duff’s sides title charge are off to the best possible start. A Dublin derby versus Shamrock Rovers on Friday night provides an early opportunity for Shels to stamp their authority on the season.

                    1. Drogheda United

Four points from a possible six for the Drogs. A well-earned opening day point in Inchicore was followed up with a 3-0 smashing of Sligo Rovers. A fantastic start to the season for one of the clubs with the smallest budgets in the league.
